Animation Area Camera Equipment

A list of our camera equipment at the Animation area, reserved for the VFX, Digital Compositing and Immersive 360˚and VR Experiences courses. If not used by these courses or by FYP, the equipment is available to all Animation area students

Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6k EF

We use the camera mainly for our green screen studio shoots, but the camera is portable and can be taken out. Works with all Canon EF mount lenses. Records ProRes QuickTime or CinemaDNG RAW, means you can shoot lossless compression, which is very import to get clean green screen footage. All up to 4.6k (4608 x 2592). Sensor size: 25.34 x 14.25 mm = Super 35, crop factor to full frame ~1.5

Rokinon (Samyang) Cine Lens Kit

Our Prime lenses fit on the URSA mini and the Canon 5D. The 7 lenses are: 14, 20, 24, 35, 50, 85, 135mm (T 1.5 – 3.1). These lenses all come with manual focus and aperture. A focus gear is available

Canon 5D Mark III / IV

We have 2x Canon 5D Mark III and 1x Mark IV.  All cameras come with a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens. Mark IV can shoot 4k video. The video files have a lossy compression, OK for most exercises but not for hard-core VFX projects. Sensor size: 36 x 24 mm = full frame, no crop factor. This is the reference of ‘full frame’

Atomos Ninja

External recorder for the Canon 5D. Connects with HDMI cable and records QuickTime ProRes 422 HQ, which is a huge improvement over the internal h.264 video quality. Especially important if you shoot low light or anything for VFX

Nodal Ninja Panorama Head + 8mm Fisheye Lens

The panorama head and the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens allow shooting of hires spherical 360˚ images. For IBL (Image Based Lighting), this is still the way to get the best results. We have 3x Canon fisheye lenses, 2x Nodal Ninjas and 2x Manfrotto VR panorama heads

Edelkrone Motion Control

Slider Plus XL and all accessories to control and repeat camera moves from your phone / iOS or Android device. An awesome toy to play with

Zhiyun Gimbal

Zhiyun Crane V2 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer. Works with the Canon 5D but better with a 6D and a light lens. Some settings can be controlled with the mobile phone app

Blackmagic Pocket Camera

Lightweight camera records HD Apple ProRes or Lossless CinemaDNG RAW. Sensor size: 12.48 x 7.02 mm = Super 16, crop factor to full frame 2.88. Currently 2 MFT lenses available: Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 and Olympus M.Zuiko ED 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO. A Metabones lens adapter for EF lenses is also available

GoPro Hero 3

Small action camera with all accessories such as head and chest mount. We have 2x Hero 3 cameras, mostly unused, available to everyone anytime

360: Insta360 Pro

Our largest and best 360˚ camera. Shoots 8k and 6k stereoscopic spherical video. Controlled remotely from your mobile phone. Offers manual camera settings, 4k live streaming and RAW still frame shooting

360: Insta360 One

Small 360˚ action camera. Shoots 4k spherical video. Can be attached to your mobile phone directly (Android via adaptor)

360: Ricoh Theta V

Our smallest 360˚ camera. One click to shoot a 360˚ photo or 4k spherical video. Controlled remotely from your mobile phone. With manual camera settings usable to shoot multiple exposures for HDRIs (Not ideal but usable for IBL). Max still image size: 5376×2688

360: Vuze 360

360˚ camera to shoot 4k stereoscopic 3D video. The compact camera comes with a proprietary stitching software (Mac/Win) called Vuze Studio that enables you to stitch the separate images together into a spherical format, and it also includes the Vuze Mobile App (Android/iOS), which can be used to remotely control the camera and manage files

S3D: Sony HDR-TD10

Sony Handycam with integrated twin-lens shoots HD stereoscopic 3D video. The build-in autoscopic LCD display requires no special glasses to show 3D. We have 5x of these cameras

S3D: Panasonic AG-3DA1

Integrated twin-lens Full HD 3D camcorder records the left and right stereo videos on two individual SD cards. Bulkier than the Sony but better quality
